Functions Of Grafting Clips When Grafting Tomatoes

Method of cleft-grafting for tomatoes

1. Cutting stock: remove the stock from the seedling bed and place it on the operating table. Cut the stock with a blade between the second and third true leaves. Leave two true leaves in the lower part of the stock, and then cut a 0.6-0.8cm interface downward in the middle of the cross section of the stem.

2. Cutting the scion: leave two leaves on the scion seedling with one heart, cut the stem of the scion seedling crosswise next to the third true leaf, and cut the seedling stem into a wedge with one cutting on both sides of the lower end of the scion stem. The thickness is about 0.3cm, and the cutting surface length is between 0.6-0.8cm, which should be as close as possible to the interface size of the root stock.

3. Cuttage grafting: the interface between the scion seedling interface and the stock should be aligned with the forming layer and inserted into the cutting of the stock so that the surface of the scion and the stock can be fully connected. The scion seedling should be inserted into the bottom of the stock interface without leaving any gap to avoid creating adventitious roots.

4. Fixing the interface: after the connection is made, use the grafting clips to hold the interface position. The grafting clips required by the cleft-grafting method is the square clips. The square clips are relatively firm and the scion is not easy to fall off, which can improve the survival rate of the grafted seedling. Put the grafted seedlings into the prepared small arch and spray some medicine to prevent the disease.

Method of close-grafting for tomatoes

1. Cutting stock: remove the stock from the seedling bed and place it on the operating table. Cut the stock with a blade between the second and third true leaves. Leave two true leaves on the lower part of the stock to cut into a 30-degree inclined surface. The incision slope is 0.6 to 0.8 cm long.

2. Cutting the scion: leave two leaves on the scion seedling with one heart, cut the stem of the scion seedling crosswise next to the third true leaf into a slope of 30°with one cutting. The slope length is 0.6 to 0.8 cm, which should be as close as possible to the interface size of the root stock.

3. Close-grafting: the incision of the scion seedling and the cutting of the root stock seedling should be aligned with the cambium layer, so as to fit together.

4. Fixing the interface: after the connection is made, use the grafting clips to hold the interface position. The grafting clips required by the close-grafting method is also the square clips. Put the grafted seedlings into the prepared small arch and spray some medicine to prevent the disease.
